Flights will only run between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Mammoth Yosemite Airport (MLH) but that should still accommodate all prospective visitors since most airports have flights to LAX. Then passengers simply transfer to the Horizon Air flight in Los Angeles for a 50 minute flight to Mammoth. Horizon's flight to Mammoth will be operated with the airline's Bombardier Q400. This 74/76-seat, high-speed, twin-engine turboprop is one of the most technologically advanced regional aircraft in the world. It's as quiet and comfortable as a jet - thanks to its special technology that suppresses noise and vibration, its generously sized overhead storage bins, its unobstructed under-seat space, and its ample headroom (6 feet 5 inches). The Q400 is also among the most environmentally friendly aircraft today, burning 30 percent less fuel and producing 30 percent lower emissions than comparable jets. Horizon's fleet serves 48 cities throughout Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Baja California Sur (Mexico), and British Columbia and Alberta (Canada). Together, Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines serve 93 cities and are subsidiaries of Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK).
Long gone will be the days of packing up the car for a 5 or 6 hours drive to Mammoth and the same for the return trip. The only catch? There will be extra charges for oversized baggage, so if you are a die hard for Mammoth, we suggest you look into purchasing a storage space or renting space to store your larger items rather than lugging them on a plane back and forth and paying a fee (more than the cost of a one way flight) to bring your equipment with you each time.
